About Tile Flooring

Engineered for excellence, it’s really no wonder tile has been a flooring favorite for hundreds of years. Tile is a smart and stunning addition to just about any type of space- from outdoor gathering spots to down-home kitchens. Perhaps best of all, tile has fetching options for nearly every wallet and whim.

At Harms Carpet One Floor & Home in Maumee, we carry a comprehensive collection of both indoor and outdoor tile, and our inventory continues growing in response to ongoing requests. Are you thinking of installing some new tile? Here’s what you might like to consider:

Types of Tile

Tile continues to evolve, and new tile choices are constantly emerging onto the market. However, some things stay consistent and ceramic, stone, and porcelain remain the most popular tiling options.

So, which tile is right for your room? Well, it depends: are you seeking tile for an indoor or outdoor space? Is the tiled area prone to spills, splashes, humidity, or heavy traffic?

Let’s take a closer look at these perennial favorites:

Ceramic tile is formed out of clay before being kiln-fired. This type of tile is a wise choice for everyday usage, since it’s made to hold strong against a barrage of foot traffic.

Porcelain tile is made in a similar fashion, except that these tiles are fired at a much higher temperature. Since it’s much denser than ceramic, porcelain is tough enough for the great outdoors.

Stone tile is made by carving out flat slabs of slate, granite, travertine, or marble. It’s a natural fit for outdoor areas, like patios, but also holds up excellently around the hearth.
